Layered Memories
This collaborative piece shown was an experiment with layered audio and visual narratives. Participants told stories about a place that is special to them. The recordings were played to other participants who drew a response to the audio.
These drawings were collated as a piece of layered digital graffiti and back projected on a large semi-transparent screen in a space. Visitors to the space could trigger random audio stories and their corresponding visuals by activating sensors under the carpet. The idea was to create the sense of eavesdropping on overlapping conversations or discovering a hidden story passed by an unknown story-teller in the way that whispered conversations are received in St Paul’s Whispering Gallery.
